Short project Overview and Waypoints

The final deliverable for this short project is no more than two pages of written text in paragraphs that:

  1. explains a specific empirical question
  2. describes data you will use to answer this question
  3. discusses what your analysis finds , and maybe alsowhat it set out to find You can and probably should include additional pages with a figure or table, references ifappropriate, and any appendices.One figure or tableis required.The first paragraph should tell a brief version of your entire story outlined above in items 1, 2, and 3.

COLLABORATION POLICY Students can work together in groups of up to 5. Larger groups need to contact Prof. Edwards. Groups are encouraged to collaborate on themust submit their own, original research topic and final writeup. Research questions can bedata setand onprogramming. But each student similar across students, but they cannot be the same. If they are the same, each student involved will receive a provisional zero until they can correct this mistake.

1 Topic statement with 3 sentences

Sentence 1 states the question youre seeking to answer Sentence 2 describes the data youre going to analyze: their source and natureSentence 3 states the answer to the question thatyou expect to find

Here is an example:

3 Final short project

On no more thantwo pages,state your research question,describe the data you found to answer the question, and discuss your initial expectations and your final results.

Write in any style you like, as long as it gets the job donein a pageand is clear and legible. One obvious format you could choose for this one-page writeup is: Paragraph 1neatly summarizes everything that follows.You can write it like an abstract. Paragraph set Astates the question you identifiedand motivates why it is an interesting question. Then it briefly explains the data set you found, and it states your initial hypothesisabout the answer to the research question.

Paragraph set Bdescribes the data set you found ingreater detail. This can be a formal, dry explanation of where the data came from, what variables they measured, maybe how the datawere collected in the first place if you find that interesting, and so on.

Paragraph set Ccould also write a separate paragraph before this that motivates the regression model you use.)motivates the regression(s) you ranand reveals the regression results. (You Explain what the results reveal and what they do not or cannot reveal. Discuss causality if youlike. Perhaps compare what you can do to what you would ideally do if you could run an experiment.
