Description

In this assignment, you will create a javafx application that students can use to calculate their overall current grade in a course, as well as calculate the score that they need on remaining assignments to obtain a specific final grade in the course.

Your application will be specific to Queens University by calculating grades based on the Queens University Official Grade Conversion Scale

Your user-interface may look like the layout shown below. You are free, however, to be creative and design the user-interface for your application in any way that you wish. The only requirement for the user interface design is that your program meets all of the functionality requirements and that the user-interface is clean, organized and easy for your grader to use and understand.

Here are some basic requirements for the functionality and appearance of your program:

Your application should be displayed as a table where each row corresponds to an individual
assignment. The grade calculator user interface should include enough rows for a minimum of five

assignments. You might choose to provide the user with the ability to add additional rows.
Please include the following columns:
a column for the user to enter the score that they received on the assignment. In the example
above, this column is called points awarded. If a student received a score of 24/50 on an
assignment, the value 24 would be entered in this column.
a column for the user to enter the total number of points available for the assignment. In the
example above, this column is called total points for the assignment. If a student received
a score of 24/50 on an assignment, the value 50 would be entered in this
column.
a column for the user to enter the weight (percentage) that an individual assignment counts for
towards the final grade. In the example above, this is the last column. If an assignment is
worth 15% of the final course grade, the value 15 would be entered in this
column.

When the user clicks on Calculate Grade Details, the program should print the grade details to the console (or a label on your window) in a format similar to the output shown below. Please be sure that you use the Queens University Official Grade Conversion Scale in order to calculate the grades required to obtain a certain letter grade.

Your current grades account for 70% of your final average. Your current average is 88.

You need to obtain 96% on the remaining assignments to have an A average in the course. You need to obtain 79% on the remaining assignments to have an A- average in

the course. You need to obtain 62% on the remaining assignments to have a B+ average in the course. You need to obtain 46% on the remaining assignments to have a B average in the course. You need to obtain 29% on the remaining assignments to have a B- average in the course.

You need to obtain 12% on the remaining assignments to have a C+ average in the course.

In addition to printing out the complete grade details when the “calculate grade details” button is clicked, the user’s current average should also be computed and displayed in a label on the window (as shown in the example below). The average should be displayed to 2 decimal places.

Error Checking:

Your program should verify that the user only enters numbers (and no other characters or letters). If invalid data is entered, throw an exception and provide the user with a meaningful error message.

Your program should verify for all of the assignments that the “achieved score” is not greater than the “total points for the assignment”. Further, your program must verify that the “percentage of the final grade” column does not sum to more than 100. If any of these situations arise, throw an exception and provide the user with a meaningful error message.

As practice for the final exam, you are encouraged to write your event handlers using lambda
functions.
You may find some or all the following methods from the JavaFX API useful:
The setText(String arg) method sets the text caption for the label to the String arg.
The getText() method returns the text entered in a TextField (return value is a string).
The setOnAction(EventHandler<ActionEvent> arg) method is used to attach an event listener
to a button.
The functional interface EventHandler<ActionEvent> contains a single abstract method called
handle. The signature of this method is: void handle(ActionEvent event);
You can use SceneBuilder, if you wish, to design your user-interface. Your  GUI should also remain
fairly stable on re-sizing and its operation should be self-explanatory and user-friendly.

Downloading SceneBuilder

SceneBuilder can be installed from the Gluon website. The current version of SceneBuilder is 11.0.0. To use Scene Builder from within Eclipse, open the “Preferences” window, choose the “JavaFX” branch and provide the path to the SceneBuilder.exe executable. After completing this step, you can follow the instructions given here on the oracle website to use SceneBuilder from within the Eclipse IDE.
