A variety of security features help to protect your data and your privacy while online. Security features include WPA2 security, a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall & NAT technology. Configuring the Router is easy using the provided browser- based utility.

  • Enable encryption
Encryption protects data transmitted over a wireless network. Wi-Fi Protected Access
(WPA/WPA2) and Wired Equivalency Privacy (WEP) offer different levels of security for wireless
communication.
A network encrypted with WPA/WPA2 is more secure than a network encrypted with WEP,
because WPA/WPA2 use dynamic key encryption. To protect the information as it passes over the
airwaves, you should enable the highest level of encryption supported by your network equipment.
WEP is an older encryption standard and may be the only option available on some older devices
that do not support WPA.

  1. Wireless MAC Filter
In the Wireless > Wireless MAC Filter, please set the following settings and capture the screen of your
settings. The right hand side is the description of the settings.

Wireless MAC Filter: Enable
Permit only: Select Permit only PCs listed to access the wireless network
Edit MAC Filter List: Enter MAC of your wireless device in MAC 01 in the MAC Address Filter List
to permit this device to access the wireless network.

In the Administration > Management, please set the following settings and capture the screen of your
settings. The right hand side is the description of the settings.

Re-enter to confirm: Renter your new password

  1. To create a DDNS account
  • Dynamic DNS (DDNS) allows you to create a hostname that points to your dynamic IP address
  • DDNS client is used to update the hostname information on DDNS server
  • It provides an easy to remember URL for quick access.
  • DDNS service providers http://www.noip.com/
  • Open account on http://www.noip.com/
  • Please create one new hostname for web Redirect
  • Web Redirect is used to redirect the hostname you created to any URL you selected.
  • Enter your new hostname and select a domain name. (In No-IP Free Domains only)
  • Select Host Type: Web Redirect
  • Enter Redirect URL: https://www.eee.hku.hk/~andy
  • Click Add Host to create new DDNS hostname
